Lunar Flow: Calming Alternative to Sun Salutations
If you’ve ever felt on edge and exhausted at the same time, you know how hard it can be to get out of this strange state. Your body wants to rest, but your mind is all over the place making it impossible to switch off. It gets even more frustrating if you can’t get the restful sleep you need so much.
Yoga seems to be an obvious tool to reach out for help, but if you’re not a yoga teacher or do not have established home practice, you’ll probably roll out your mat and go for some Surya Namaskar, sun salutations.
Sun salutations are great when your aim is to build up heat and energy. They are not the smartest choice if you feel anxious, stressed and exhausted, because they require substantial physical energy.
When you are in so called mixed state, that is physically exhausted with low level of energy, but high levels of anxiety and racing thoughts, you want mixed tools to bring yourself somewhere more pleasurable.
That’s where the practice of lunar flow comes in to rescue.
The Lunar Flow is a smooth vinyasa style practice that is calming, cooling and grounding. We move continuously, one breath per one movement, calming the mind by introducing rhythm to the body. There is no vigorous up and down or power poses such as Chaturanga Dandasana so we avoid further exertion of the physical body.
Join me for a 30 minute complete practice featuring the Lunar Flow and balancing pranayama or use it as a base for longer practice, if it feels wise.
If you found value in this post, your interaction such as comments, likes, saves and sharing with friends is great support for me as well as motivation to create more free content. It is scary to create for the void of YouTube or social media. Knowing there's real people on the other side who enjoy my content brings joy and, well, humanity into this endeavor. :)
Thank you for reading all the way and I look forward to sharing more yoga with you next week.
